Musae is a treble vocal ensemble based in San Francisco. Founded in 2004 and led by Artistic Director Elizabeth Kimble, Musae functions as a musical collective in which each singer actively contributes to the artistic process. Primarily performing from memory and without a conductor, Musae creates an intimate concert environment where singers connect deeply with one another and the audience through direct engagement and intuitive responsiveness.

The role of the Musae board is to hire (or appoint) and oversee the Artistic Director, hire (or appoint) and oversee the Administrative Director, oversee strategic planning and goal setting for the organization, guide and support the financial health of the organization, and act as ambassadors and advocates for the organization in the community. 

Board members agree to:

• Fully engage in Board work and committee work in support of annual Board and committee goals.

• Attend all major Musae concerts and events each season unless prevented so by a meaningful conflict, and seek to expand the reach of Musae by inviting and encouraging new guests.

• Personally give or raise from external sources at least $500 per year for Musae.

• Support the Artistic Director and Administrative Director as appropriate.

• Propose, interview, and elect new members to the board.

• Financial management

• Marketing

• Fundraising

• Strategic growth

As a board member, you'll be part of a working team, contributing your time and expertise. Board meetings take place in person three times a year, and board members typically spend a couple hours per month outside of board meetings advancing the organization’s mission:
